Do you have the Hebridean dream – finding space and peace, have time to unwind, have fun and maybe try something new? Reothart nan Ealain is based in beautiful Uig on the isle of Lewis, surrounded by inspiring scenery. This Gaelic visual arts hub is based out of a former school, orignially built in 1874 which offers a welcoming studio space, fully accessible for wheelchair users with great natural light, a stove for damp days and a lochside view.

Heather-clad mountains, white beaches, machair lands and nature in all her wonder are evident in the surrounding scenery and our courses aim to creatively connect visitors to the rich cultural heritage of this place.
To come on one of our courses is to be taken by the hand and shown this deeper Gaelic cultural stream which gives this place its story, through the lens of art making.

All our courses are run by Lewis-based teaching artists, Gaelic speakers and tradition bearers.

Here at Reothart nan Ealain we offer a range of courses to suit various participants needs from the complete beginner wanting to try something new and fun to the proffessional artist looking for time to replenish their creative wellspring.

CREATIVE HALF DAY SESSIONS

Our half day courses offer a 'blasad beag' - a taste of this place! From digging deeper into the Hebridean landscape on our guided sensory tours to family outings, we have something for everyone!

Our courses take place in a range of locations from outside at the peat bank, machair, beach, over moors to the sheilings, to indoors; taking place at the print press, next to the stove, at the easel in the studio.
Alongside our bespoke tutoring, whether you're in the studio or outside, we include all your materials as well as homebaking and hot or cold drinks in each half day session.
CREATIVE FULL DAY SESSIONS

Will you be passing by, staying in Uig, fancy having some creative adventures? Why not sign up for one of our full day courses? Most sessions will have some outside discovery time- explorations in the landscape followed by time in the studio- art activities to try yourself.
Sessions are designed for participants to have fun, learn about Gaelic ‘ways of seeing’, be creative and get a chance to make some art.
Participants will be supplied with all materials needed for the day, teas and coffees with home baking and a delicious lunch made with local, seasonal produce.
TWO DAY WORKSHOPS

For those wishing to have more time to explore, learn, and consolidate a new skill in subjects like printmaking or sculpture.
These two day courses allow participants more time to focus on their chosen subject as well as more time with your tutor and peers.

On both days participants will be supplied with all materials required, teas and coffees with home baking and a delicious lunch made with local, seasonal produce.
7 DAY RESIDENTIAL CREATIVE RETREATS

Reothart nan Ealain will be running residential courses which will offer partcipants time to learn, to relax, to make, to meet like-minded people and to come away with full sketchbooks, finished artworks, new friends and cherished memories.
We are partnering with Reasort Estates so that participants can stay in the beautiful lochside 'Morgail Lodge' with it's peaceful views of the Harris hills, it's the perfect place for participants to retreat to after a day out on the moors or in the studio.
These seven night residential courses are fully inclusinve with all meals catered for (excluding alcohol), with nourishing, seasonal and local produce at the heart of our home cooking.

Looking for something different? Perhaps one to one tuition? Or celebrating a special event? Maybe a hag-do (that’s hen or stag!)? We can tailor our offerings to your needs - from arty floral crowns and wedding favour workshops to stone carving followed by fishing?! Why not get in touch, tell us your specific needs and we can build a really special experience for you. We can add in catering, accommodation, outdoor adventures, whisky or gin tasting… you name it and we think we’ll find a way of doing it for you!
