Course description

Reothart nan Ealain is delighted to be offering a three day printmaking course with visual artist Sandra Kennedy. This course will involve working in the landscape, gathering imagery and resources. We want you to experience the landscape with all your senses, translating and distilling your thoughts and sensations initially into drawing, then to printmaking. There will be a mix of drawing exercises, demonstrations and individual guidance. The emphasis will be on exploring with a sense of fun and openness, learning from and encouraging each other. Reduction block printing is achieved by working one block for all your colour layers. After printing your first layer, you carve into the block a second time then the carved areas will preserve your first colour, this continues until your desired image is finished. Unlike multi-block printing you can make decisions as you go, responding to the forming image. This process suits artists who are open to an intuitive approach. This course is perfect for those wanting to have a relaxing and fun creative time, mayby trying new techniques or mediums and exploring some of the wonderful landscapes in Uig, Lewis. Days will run from 10am - 4pm, on Monday 15th, Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th July 2024. All materials are included in the costs, as is home baking, hot drinks and a seasonal, nourishing lunch on all three days. (Accomodation, transport and meals other than lunch are not included). Please get in touch if you have any questions, or need help with finding accomodation or travel information: info@reothart.scot or call Mairi 07902874156 Sandra Kennedy is from a small village called Marvig in the South Lochs area Isle of Lewis. Sandra says 'my local landscape and wildlife gave me a love for art, and when I left school I went on to study sculpture at Grays School of Art. After college I got involved in film animation workshops and worked on projects across Scotland. This experience led on to an interest in storytelling, so I went on to do a post graduate degree in scenography (directing and designing performance) at Central St Martins.' Prices: To encourage the cultural development and sustainability of our local community we offer an islander discount – if you live full time and have an HS2 postcode please select the discounted price option on the pull down menu)
